Comprehensive Eye Exams
At Silo Eye Care, comprehensive eye exams go beyond determining your prescription for glasses or contact lenses. Using advanced diagnostic testing, we take a holistic approach to evaluate eye health, identify early signs of disease, and understand how your vision relates to your overall health. Our goal is for every patient to leave feeling informed, comfortable, and confident in the steps needed to support and preserve their long-term vision and eye health.
Importance of Annual Comprehensive Eye Exams
Prescription Accuracy
Whether you have perfect vision or have difficulty seeing clearly, comprehensive eye exams allow our optometrists to give personalized recommendations for your vision care needs that are specific to you!
Disease Prevention
An eye exam helps identify risk factors for conditions like glaucoma, cataracts or macular degeneration, which often have no symptoms in the early stages. A comprehensive eye exam can detect these issues before they cause significant complications, such as vision loss.
Vision & Wellness
The eyes can be an indicator of broader health conditions, including hypertension, diabetes, and neurological issues. A comprehensive exam can catch signs of these conditions early, potentially improving your overall health.
Technology Behind Exceptional Eye Care
At Silo Eye Care, we believe exceptional eye care begins with exceptional insight. Our state-of-the-art diagnostic technology provides a detailed view of your eye health, allowing for earlier detection of eye disease, more accurate monitoring, and a highly preventative approach to vision care.

Retinal Imaging
Retinal imaging captures detailed photographs of the retina, optic nerve, and blood vessels at the back of the eye. These images help detect and monitor serious eye conditions such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal tears, and hypertensive eye disease, many of which often go unnoticeable before symptoms develop. Retinal imaging also creates a valuable baseline for monitoring changes in your eye health over time.

Digital Refraction
This device helps determine your eyeglass or contact lens prescription with precision. By evaluating how light focuses within the eye, it allows us to optimize vision correction and identify changes that may be related to nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, or age-related vision changes.

Digital Imaging
This advanced imaging system gives us a highly detailed view of the front of your eye, where many common vision and comfort issues begin. It helps us diagnose and manage conditions such as dry eye syndrome, cataracts, blepharitis, allergies, and corneal irritation. Since images can be captured and reviewed over time, we can also track changes and ensure your eyes stay healthy and comfortable.

Digital Tonometer
This instrument measures the pressure inside your eyes, an essential step in screening for glaucoma. Increased eye pressure can be an early indicator of glaucoma, a condition that may cause irreversible vision loss without timely detection. Our approach is a gentle, modern alternative to the traditional “puff of air” test, offering a more comfortable experience with precise, reliable results. This allows us to detect changes early and protect long-term vision health.
The Path to Better Vision
From the moment you arrive until you leave, we guide you through each step with care and precision. Your time matters, and so does getting it right.
Thorough Medical & Eye Health History review
Every comprehensive eye exam begins with understanding you. We take the time to review your personal and family eye health history, medical conditions, medications, lifestyle, and any changes you may have noticed with your vision. This helps our doctors identify potential risk factors and create a more personalized approach to your eye care.
Vision Testing & Eye Health Evaluation
Comprehensive vision testing and eye health evaluation using advanced diagnostic technology. This includes assessing vision at various distances to identify refractive errors such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, as well as retinal screening to detect early signs of eye disease, including cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and other conditions that may affect long-term vision.
Additional Specialized Testing
Additional diagnostic testing may be recommended based on age, symptoms, medical history, and risk factors. Specialized testing helps evaluate and monitor conditions such as diabetic eye disease, glaucoma, dry eye disease, retinal disorders, and other vision-threatening eye health concerns.
Personalized Eye Health Plan
A thorough review of exam findings, including retinal imaging and diagnostic results, helps provide a clear understanding of overall eye health. Personalized recommendations and treatment options are discussed to support healthy vision, address concerns, and create a proactive plan for long-term eye care.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Find answers to common questions about comprehensive eye exams, including what to expect during your visit and how regular exams help protect your vision.
At Silo Eye Care, we recommend having a comprehensive eye exam at least once a year, even if your vision seems stable. Annual eye exams allow us to monitor changes in your vision, update your prescription if needed, and detect eye diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration in their earliest stages.
Patients with medical conditions, eye diseases, or a strong family history of conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure may need more frequent exams, depending on their age, health, and individual risk factors. We will always recommend a personalized exam schedule designed to help protect your long-term vision and eye health.
Most comprehensive eye exams take approximately 45–60 minutes, depending on your individual needs and whether additional testing is recommended. Our goal is to provide a thorough evaluation of your vision and eye health while giving you plenty of time to ask questions and discuss any concerns. If you are interested in contact lenses or have a medical eye condition that requires additional testing, your visit may take a little longer.
Please bring your insurance card, a photo ID, and a list of any medications you are currently taking. If you wear contact lenses, bring your current contact lens prescription or your contact lens boxes if available. We also recommend arriving a few minutes early to complete any necessary paperwork and ensure a smooth check-in process.
